Folks continue to pack the beautiful Clintonville Woman's Club, 3951 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio every Monday evening to hear the Famous Jazz Orchestra playing their hearts out for all who care to listen.  Must be they found the "best kept secret in Ohio!"  Under the direction of the hilarious Vaughn Wiester, the band has been getting together every Monday night (except when Columbus gets horrible weather, or  competition from a Buckeye football game) for going over 20 years.  The FJO is a twenty-two piece orchestra made up of volunteer professional musicians who simply love getting  together to "jam and blow the good ones."

This Monday Night, April 23rd -  Our Guest Performer will be another local vocalist sensation - Dick Mackey.

Up On Deck

Monday, April 30th (7:30 pm) - Our Guest Performer(s) will be the Columbus Academy Band under the direction of Jessica Sneeringer.

Special Fundraiser Concert

John Von Ohlen Birthday Celebration
with Jeff Hamilton, Jim Rupp & The Flying Circus
Monday, April 30th
(7:30 & 9:30 pm 2 sets)
The Greenwich, 2442 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati, OH

John Von Ohlen is a world class drummer from Cincinnati that has been a good friend of and featured with Ray Eubanks Jazz Arts Group over 20 times, and Vaughn Wiesters Famous Jazz Orchestra several times - both primarily when those bands were "playing tribute" to the late Stan Kenton. John was on the road and recorded with Stan's band from '70 to '72 and was intimate with his music. Prior to that John played with Woody Herman from '67 - '69. Von Ohlen also backed up Rosemary Clooney several times when she sang in Columbus - mostly with Eubanks Jazz Arts Group. There is a book out entitled "It's Gotta Swing - The John Von Ohlen Story" by Jim Nunn that makes interesting reading of John's career. In short, John is a Cincinnati musical legend.

Well, the last six months or so John has been in the hospital several times with kidney related issues - most recently the threat of being put on dialysis. This has left him in financial turmoil. His current band mates in The Flying Circus are putting together a fund raiser Birthday Celebration for John on April 30th (above). (purchase tickets &/or donate)

Unfortunately for us Famous Jazz Orchestra fans, this compassionate benefit concert is on a MONDAY which makes it difficult to attend both events. So, those of you that are big John Von Ohlen fans, or those that would still like to help out a world class musician in time of need please consider making a donation on the "link" above, or by a healthy check made out to "John Von Ohlen" and mail it to Ray Eubanks, 403 Hickory Lane, Westerville, OH 43081. Your generosity will be greatly needed and appreciated.
